About Satpura National Park

Satpura National Park safariSatpura National Park is located in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

It was established in 1981.

It falls under the Hoshangabad district. It’s named after the Satpura range of mountains.

Satpura National Park is spread across an area of 524 sq km. The adjoining Bori Wildlife Sanctuary along with Pachmarhi Wildlife Sanctuary sum up to an unique central Indian highland ecosystem of 1427 sq km.

The landscape of the Satpura is extremely rugged and consists of fascinating deep valleys, narrow gorges, streams , waterfalls, as well as, sandstone peaks.
Engulfed with thickly dense green forest of Sal, as well as, other medicinal herbs along with the might Tawa reservoir at its backdrop makes Satpura National Park a feast for the eyes.
The altitude ranges from 300 to 1,352 metres (984 to 4,436 ft).
Dhoopgarh is the highest peak of Madhya Pradesh, as it is located at Pachmarhi ( 1,350 metres | 4,430 ft) .

Flora in Satpura National Park

The forests of Satpura National Park is basically moist deciduous.

The flora consists of mainly sal, teak, tendu, Phyllanthus emblica, mahua, bel, bamboo, and grasses, as well as, medicinal plants.

Fauna in Satpura National Park

Satpura National Park is very rich in biodiversity. Various kinds of animals are found here, which includes leopard, sambar, chital, Indian muntjac, nilgai, four-horned antelope, chinkara, wild boar, bear, black buck, fox, porcupine, flying squirrel, mouse deer, as well as, the Indian giant squirrel.

There are a variety of birds as well. Hornbills and peafowl are common birds found here.

Satpura National Park has one core, as well as, two buffer zones open for tourists.

The buffer zones are known as Jamani Dev & Parsapani.

All the National Parks of Madhya Pradesh reserves half day off on every Wednesday.

There are no afternoon safari’s on Wednesday’s.
