Satpura Tiger Reserve is a habitat of 52 species of Mammals, 31 of Reptiles and 300 species of birds, out of which 14 are endangered. STR also a habitat of arboreal mammals like Flying Squirrel, Indian Giant Squirrel and Leaf nosed bats. Eurasian Otter and Smooth coated Otter are also found here. It is a unique park of M.P where pollution free activities like cycling, canoeing and trekking are allowed.

Zones
Satpura National Park has been bifurcated into five Zones, three in the core area ( critical Tiger habitat ) namely Madhai, Panaarpani(Pachmarhi) & Bheemkund(Churna), and the rest two are in buffer areas of the Tiger Reserve adjoining the core, namely Jamani Dev & Parsapani. Satpura is renowned for the special experiences offered apart from the usual jungle safari : • Full day trip with lunch at FRH, Churna • Canoe ride • Speed boat ride ( 1 hr ) • Speed boat ride ( Tawa – Madhai – Tawa ) • Night safari • Jungle Walk ( in core )


Rounds / Shifts
Daily there are two rounds of safari’s, the morning one from dawn to around 11.30 am & the noon one from 3 pm till dusk. The timings are rescheduled as per the season. Please be advised that there are no afternoon safari’s on Wednesday evenings & the day of Holi & Diwali, the Park remains restricted for tourists.

Vehicles
4x4 customized gypsies, pre registered with the Forest Department are used for the game drives.
Guides
It is mandatory to have a guide, registered with the Forest Department, during the excursions. The guides, although local, are well versed in the flora & fauna of the Park & showcase the Park aesthetically.


Best Time to visit
The best time to visit the Reserve is from 1st Oct to 30 June.
Weather
Satpura being situated in Central India is subjected to extreme and tropical weather. Temperature in and around Pachmarhi plateau is generally lower than the plains. Monsoon arrives in the end of June and rainfall in Pachmarhi is much higher than the rest of district.
